It is easy to set personal development goals. However maintaining the discipline to complete your goal is harder. The gulf between intention and behaviour is often where positive change falls down.
We are more likely to engage in behaviours that are accessible and easy to do, and positive change cannot happen without taking action. Therefore the strategies within all the Mindcard packs are actionable and easy to digest, encouraging individuals to revisit and act upon the advice with ease.
Often individuals will leave the cards at their desk, in the living room, or on their bedside table, increasing the likelihood the information is acted upon regularly, and habituated.
Each pack contains several “create your own cards”, which encourage the user to devise their own strategies to keep calm. Psychological research has shown that when we are inventive with the strategies we use to improve performance we are more likely to apply and benefit from them. This section of the pack is therefore focused on the user taking ownership of their internal states.
Through the guidance of a symbol system the strategies are recommended to be used in certain contexts. Once the strategy is consciously paired within the context, it becomes an independent reminder to use the technique. For example the workplace symbol is a reminder to use the suggested strategy during work.
The pack contains an extensive set of strategies because everyone is different. Being sensitive to this allows the user to prioritise their favourite strategies for future reference. The option for the user to invent their own strategies on the blank “create your own cards” also adds a personal touch.
